[Show Review] The Happy Camper w/ Jameston Thieves & MineSweepa
On Thursday October 12, the good folks at the Happy Camper took over the Valley Bar and brought their brand of banging, yet intimate EDM into a new setting. The results were just as impressive (though I missed seeing the forest backdrop, which is a personal fave of mine).
Happy Camper is busy in Arizona cultivating and curating a Boiler Room-esque production complete with dope beatmakers and producers. You can catch the musical offerings ranging from techno to future bass to disco. Each show is live streamed and it is a sight to see. Each month, the Happy Camper team brings dope visuals (shout out visual guy Dakota!) in addition to the sounds coming out of Facebook live. The live visuals are matched by the design work on the team’s flyers, Instagram, and website. It’s no surprise the team leaves no pixel uninteresting. And the lineup matches the aesthetics.
The Valley Bar lineup featured Jameston Thieves (Buygore, Pantheon), MineSweepa (Firepower Records), HATTRIX, & Animate. After the local openers, HATTRIX and Animate dropped immense opening sets, MineSweepa came out and blew minds. Dropping razor sharp basslines, he kept the crowd moving throughout his hour long set. Giving back that same energy, MineSweepa bounced the whole time with a head banging punk rock swagger. It was lift off from the moment he dropped his first track and everything about his set was ill making him someone to watch in the future.
The headliner from Tempe, Arizona called Jameston Thieves, fresh off playing the Dancefestopia festival in Kansas City with Dillon Francis, Tiesto, and Bassnectar, kicked right into gear ending the night on super elevated note. His brand of filthy electro infused future bass and dubstep is killer live. And the track Ghost, with its chest rattling bass and ambient sounds makes for a great closer.
All in all, the Happy Camper continues to impress. In less than a year, the collective has managed to cross into different genres for their shows and move locations with success. Consistency like this is difficult. But I believe no matter the campground, it’ll continue to be dope. Check the Happy Camper on Facebook where you can stream all their shows including this one.
